Hon. Secretary’s Report
for the year 2001-2002
Friends,
The Celebration
We are celebrating seventeen years of our existence and have reached a landmark by finally purchasing our own office premises at Mahim. We have achieved this milestone because of our enthusiastic and dynamic President Dr. Shivkumar Utture, who took special interest in acquiring this office premises for the association. Our new accounting year’s activities shall begin in our own office, and that shall be celebration time, for all of us! * Another year of fraternity, continuing medical education and merriment has drawn to a close. It goes to our credit that we have been able to maintain an excellent tempo of social service and professional camaraderie, and expanded our activities to serve the society around us.
Membership
If membership is a sign of success of an association, we are on an excellent wicket. Our membership at the close of the year stands close to 900. A vast majority of last year’s members have come from far areas of the city. Several new members have also joined us, probably after analysing our activities. Our furthest member hails from as far as Bhiwandi - his complaint is that he receives our mailings after one week, and just to make sure he does not miss on any event, he telephones me every week. That’s the dedication and perseverance as demonstrated by our members.
The trend of interest in the association’s activities by our members is now becoming clear. There is a dedicated group who attends all the Medical Camps and School Check-up we organise. Another group (the academicians) attends all the CMEs and the Medical Conference without fail. There are many who prefer to meet at Social Events over a drink. But one and all, they form one group of individuals interested in the welfare of the association.
Events
The association has held more than one event every month on an average. The months of September, December & February registered maximum number of events.
The highlights of this year’s activities was definitely the close co-operation between the past and present committie members, the excellent relationship with the pharmaceutical companies. These activities of the association will bring it greater laurels in the years to come and it is hoped that each and every member will contribute to the success of our noble work.

We are still in the process of transferring the premises in the name of MDMPA which shall be completed in a month’s time. I congratulated you aH on this occasion and give credit to all Ex-Presidents Ex-Secretaries, Ex-Vice Presidents. Scientific & Educational Activities
The CMEs and the Medical Conference of our association have as usual, provided the backbone of activities Every CME was a resounding success and provided a wonderful platfrom for members to meet and discuss academics and recent trends in the medical field. This year’s specialty has been the different venues selected for the meetings like Hotel Maurya, Hotel Metro Palace and Hotel Sheetal Arch, which provided members a chance to savour speciality dishes in these hotels. Dr. Anil Pachnekar is the finance generator behind these activities without whom we could not have achieved the high standards set by our predecessors in organising these programmes. Dr. H. S. Shingan also contributed wholeheartedly to the cause and never allowed his ‘age factor” to get in the wayl I congratulate both of them and pray to God to give them more strength so they can continue their good work.

Social & Recreational Activities
The Social Events have been a runaway success. The Annual Social at MIG Club, Bandra will be remembered- by one and all for a long time to come. It provided everybody an opportunity to let one’s hair down and a perfect outlet for their day-to-day tensions of life. It was appreciated by those who came and also gave the managing committee an insight into the likes and dislikes of our members.
The man behind these social activities is the man of the year, my friend, Dr. Sudhir Path. He has arranged for the first time in the history of MDMPA an International Tour in which 116 doctors and their families went on a rendezvous to Bangkok, Pattaya, Kuala Lumpur, Genting Highlands and Singapore in May 2002.

Managing Committee Meetings
• The managing committee met regularly on the first Wednesday of each month during the assiciation Year 2001-2002. The Committee was unanimous in all its decisions in the day to-day management of the association
in organising events, the committee always - took care to respond to the member’s needs and avoided functions on days when members would be busy either in their religious or family commitments. The pace of activity was such that each member could not forget the association - or get tired with too many events.
The attendance of different members of the managing Committee during the year was as follows.

Finances
The association’s finances continue to grow from strength to strength. Current years balance sheet shows deficit but intact we are in surplus because we have received many cheques from sponsors of conference in the month of April 2002. As of today we have a sum of Rupees Five Lakhs in Fixed Deposits after making payment towards the purchase of office premises. This amount is sufficient for future managing committees to carry out the day-to-day activities.
Our main source of income this year was the Annual Medical Conference. Dr. Shivkumar Utture, Dr. Anil Pachnekar, Dr. Sanjeev Khosla and Dr. H.S. Shingan and many others worked day and night to collect a large sum by way of Session Sponsorships, Stall Sponsorships and Advertisements published in the Souvenir released on that occasion. Our grateful thanks goes to all members of the Conference Committee who worked hard to collect funds and strengthen the association
The CMEs held by the association are also a steady source of income. Our grateful thanks must go to the Sponsors of these meetings for coming forward so generously and helping the association’s cause.
In maintaining strict control over expenses, the managing committee has tried to provide the association the sort of base on which the association can survive for a few years on a sound financial footing. The policy has been to avoid unnecessary expenses and cut the frills in the organisation of our various activities. It has been the goal of the managing committee to make functions and meetings utilitarian rather than glamorous.
Our Treasurer, Dr. R. R Joshi requires a special mention for his meticulous efforts in keeping the accounts of the associaion for the 3rd year in succession. He has maintained the accounts with care, sincerity and zeal as a result of
which we are in a relatively happy position which we find ourselves in today.
Community Services :-
1. School Checkup : This year we have done school checkup of Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Ganesh Vidya .Mandir, Canossa High School and Mahim Mahila Mandal. The credit goes to our Vice President,Dr. Arun Bhure for meticulously organising these programmes.
2. Medical Camp: Dr. Prabha Shinde has organized this year’s medical camp at Wangani. We congratulate her for her dedicated and untiring efforts to alleviate sufferings of the poor and needy adivasi population, for the second consecutive year.
Accounts and Audit
This year our accounts have been audited by M/s. Gangji & Associates for a token honorarium. We are grateful to them for services rendered.
The Future
Our association is now seventeen years old. It is time for all of us to do some hard thinking on the ultimate aims and objectives of the association and the direction we should take it in It is time for some introspection how long can we depend on sponsors to organise and finance our monthly CME’s, Conferences and other activities?
